2022-23 Incoming Fellows

 Drs. Lauren Haggerty, Jae Kim, Amruta Nair, Justin Bullock, Anna Zemke

Bullock_JustinJustin Bullock (University of California San Francisco): Originally from Detroit, Michigan Justin completed his BS in chemical and biological engineering at MIT where he was two-time NCAA All-American in Track & Field. He subsequently completed his medical degree at UCSF and received his MPH from the University of California Berkeley. Justin elected to remain at UCSF for his internal medicine residency where he currently leads studies focused on equity in assessment and identity safety in the clinical learning environment. Justin enjoys most outdoor activities, continues to run competitively and writes frequently in his spare time.

Haggerty_LaurenLauren Haggerty (University of California San Diego): Lauren is the current Chief Resident at UCSD where she completed her internal medicine residency. She originally hails from Mercer Island and attended the University of Washington where she majored in neurobiology. Following her undergraduate years, Lauren taught middle school mathematics in Hartford, CT as a Teach For America corps member. She subsequently completed her medical studies at the University of Vermont. Lauren is an avid hiker, wood carver and baker and is passionate about health and education equity.
Kim_JaeJae Kim (Kent Hospital-Brown University): Jae hails from Rochester, MI where he studied biochemistry and received NIH funding (undergraduate student research grant) to work in the Liu lab at Oakland University. He obtained his medical degree from Michigan State University and will complete his internal medicine residency at Kent Hospital/Brown University in Rhode Island. Jae plays volleyball competitively and enjoys cooking, hiking and camping. He lists coffee as his most preferred beverage.
Nair_AmrutaAmruta Nair (University of Alabama Birmingham-Montgomery): Amruta attended medical school at Kasturba Medical College in southwestern India where she taught English to children from underserved communities. She is currently an internal medicine resident at UAB-Montgomery where she represents her colleagues on the hospital medical executive, ethics and heart failure committees. Amruta is an avid traveler and writer of short stories, character descriptions and poems. She enjoys cooking both new and traditional cuisines.
Anna Zemke (Rush University): Originally from Seattle, Anna will be returning to the Pacific Northwest after spending the past 8 years in the upper Midwest. She initially left Seattle to pursue a career in professional dance at Purchase College, SUNY Conservatory of Dance until a career-ending injury forced her to change plans. She subsequently returned to UW and graduated with degrees in dance and biochemistry. She received her medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine and will complete her internal medicine residency at Rush University where she is concurrently pursuing a Master degree in Clinical Research. Outside of medicine and dance, Anna enjoys backpacking and international travel.
