This inpatient and outpatient consultation service focuses on specialized care of patients with concomitant kidney and heart disease.
Dr. Nisha Bansal on the Kidney Heart Service:
"We are delighted to offer a specialized Kidney Heart Service. The number of patients with concomitant kidney and cardiovascular disease continues to grow.
The management of these patients is complex, and our patients benefit greatly from more focused and coordinated care.
We are also very excited that this clinic serves as a basis for ongoing and future research studies."
Clinic Info
The UW Kidney-Heart Clinic provides specialized care for people whose heart and kidneys affect each other. These two organs work closely together, and problems in one can often lead to problems in the other. Our clinic brings together doctors with expertise in both heart disease and kidney disease to care for patients with complex conditions such as heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and sudden kidney injury during heart illness. By coordinating care across specialties, we aim to better understand how these conditions interact and to provide more personalized treatment.
Our team works closely with cardiologists and other specialists at the University of Washington to manage issues such as fluid balance, blood pressure, kidney function, and medications that affect both the heart and kidneys. This collaborative approach helps ensure patients receive comprehensive care that addresses the whole person—not just one organ system. The goal of the Kidney-Heart Clinic is to improve outcomes, prevent complications, and help patients live healthier lives with heart and kidney disease.
