Observations

Welcome to UW Nephrology

Our program focuses on offering high-quality education and patient care in a public hospital setting. We emphasize close collegial relationships between attending physicians, fellows, residents, and staff.

Medical school students, potential medical school students seeking observation hours or shadowing experience, and medical professionals (e.g. physicians, ARNP, PA, nurse, medic) may request a clinical observership with the University of WashingtonRequests require a minimum of 1 month's advance notice and are subject to capacity and institutional approval.

Please review the following documents for detailed requirements:

Clinical/Research Observations

  • Occur only at UW Medical Center (clinical only) or Harborview Medical Center (clinical or research)
  • Require a sponsoring physician with active privileges at the hosting site.
  • Require approval through the respective Medical Director’s Office
  • Does not include hands-on patient care

Research Visits

Unlike clinical observership, the VISIT program coordinates research-only visits. Individuals seeking a research appointment must have a faculty sponsor and apply through the University of Washington VISIT program.
